Everything about Robert R Mccormick School Of Engineering And Applied Science totally explained

Established in 1909, the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science ("McCormick" or "Tech") is one of six undergraduate schools at Northwestern University. 162 faculty members teach an undergraduate class of 1,398 students and a graduate class of 1,121 students. The median SAT score for students is 1430 out of 1600. Most engineering classes are held in the Technological Institute, which, like the school itself, students often refer to as "Tech." In October 2005, a new state-of-the-art facility named the Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center opened, giving students opportunities for learning about design and teamwork. McCormick is home to 8 departments of engineering:
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical and Biological Engineering
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics
  • Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
The school of engineering is highly esteemed in various departments. Three undergraduate and four graduate programs are ranked in top 10 in U.S. News & World Report. It is named after Chicago media mogul Robert R. McCormick.

Curriculum

In 1996, Northwestern University launched a revolutionary engineering program called Engineering Design and Communication (EDC), which is a mandatory class for all engineering students. EDC consists of two quarter-long classes that focus on design and communication within the Engineering discipline. Two professors, Professors with either an Engineering degree/experience or an English degree, work with small classes to tackle the design process. EDC classes typically work with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago or other local non-profit organizations.
The Engineering Analysis program is also mandatory for all engineering students and consists of four quarter-long classes. These classes provide the basis for a successful engineering education, and teach linear algebra, statics and dynamics, system dynamics, and differential equations. In addition, students become familiar with the computer programming language MATLAB.
